There's a new TV show about a young woman who gives up her life as an attorney in the family firm to become a mediator. Disillusioned by the win/lose outcomes of the courtroom, she seeks use her talents to develop the win/win solutions available through alternative dispute resolution.
In the first episode before she starts her work day, she negotiates a settlement between a shopkeeper and robber while placing her coffee order. The character is plucky, clever, dressed in the obligatory short skirt with the highest of heels, and fun. I'll be tuning in to see "Kate Reed" take on people in conflict and weave TV solutions to impossible situations. Conflict resolution is a cornerstone of Symphony of Agreement. See how it works, albeit without the glamour of prestigious law firm and the uncanny ability to solve crimes.

Check, Check, Reality Check
On Wed, Jan 26 -
Mom: cataract surgery. Check.
Dad: successful cancer surgery. Check.
3 yr old granddaughter: taken to hospital by ambulance. Reality check.
In one day, three people I love are under various levels of medical care. Familiar fear rises up to declare a premature victory before falling to "Mama Grizzly" faith: not my family, not my legacy, not our baby.
She's still in the hospital and improving while a symphony of angels sing over her.

Starting Now
When the title "Symphony of Agreement" showed up on my on-line devotional last August, I knew in that moment it that was the name of my "some day in the far, probably-never-going-to-happen future" consulting business. I've been holding a seed of an idea to use my conflict resolution / group faciltation / strategic planning / human resources skills to work with both business and faith based organizations. I'm fluent in both languages.
Impulsively, I purchased a domain name and haven't been back to it since. Intentionally, I contracted with a graphic artist to develop a logo. Methodically, I registered with the Secretary of State. Out of my mind after sick days at home, I started this blog. As if I knew what I was doing.
The people I run with say 2011 is a time of new beginnings, divine revelation and creativity. I'm open for that business.
